Description
Cantina Bartolo Mascarello is one of Barolo's great traditionalist estates, now run by Maria Teresa Mascarello. As always, the 2013 Barolo is a single blend of the family's vineyard holdings rather than a single-cru wine; the critics note that this vintage still includes the San Lorenzo cru.
Critics praise the 2013 for its elegance and purity. Antonio Galloni calls it "drop-dead gorgeous," with dark cherry, plum, spice, menthol and licorice. Monica Larner notes pressed violet, cassis, wild sage and an iron-tinged minerality, and advises extra cellaring. A modern classic from a celebrated vintage.
