Piaggia Sangiovese Pietranera 2023 750ml

Piaggia is a family estate in Carmignano, west of Florence, led by Silvia Vannucci. Pietranera is its Toscana IGT red: 80% Sangiovese and 20% Cabernet Franc from southwest-facing vines at about 250 meters on clay and galestro soils. It is fermented with indigenous yeasts, macerated for 18 to 20 days and aged in French barriques. The 2023 opens with flowery underbrush, worn leather, raspberry and peppery spice. It is energetic and racy on the palate, with crisp red and blue fruit, gentle tannins and a savory, mineral finish. A terrific everyday Tuscan red. 91 pts, Vinous
