Chateau de Trinquevedel Tavel Rose 2024 750ml
Guillaume Demoulin is the fourth generation in his family to cultivate the beautiful vineyards of Château de Trinquevedel. His great-grandfather, Eugène, purchased the eighteenth-century château in 1936, a decision that proved timely, as it coincided with the establishment of Tavel's A.O.C. that same year. However, at that time, the vineyards were in poor condition, presenting Eugène with a significant challenge. By 1960, the grapes were finally producing wine worthy of the Demoulin name, and the château was restored to its former glory.
Louis XIV was among the first to praise Tavel's delicious and memorable rosés, which is understandable given the appellation's reputation for 'grand cru' wines today. Tavel is unique as the only A.O.C. that produces exclusively rosé, prohibiting any white or red wines from bearing its label. Additionally, no more than sixty percent of the final blend can consist of the noble Grenache grape. In other regions where rosé is produced, it is often seen as an afterthought, with most grapes sourced from lesser-quality parcels, as the lighter maceration is perceived as "wasting" valuable juice. In Tavel, however, even the best vineyard parcels can contribute to the blend, highlighting yet another aspect that makes this cru so exceptional.
Together with his wife, Céline, Guillaume manages thirty-two hectares of vines situated in the hills of the Montagne Noire (Black Mountain). Their stony vineyards resemble those of the renowned Châteauneuf, consisting of sand and quartzite galets roulés (rounded stones). The local climate and sun exposure yield grapes with remarkable concentration and power. The rosés from Château de Trinquevedel consistently showcase aromas of ripe red berries, complemented by notes of the locally abundant spicy garrigue.
